Dear Earlsdon Methodist Friends,

There is a fair amount of new information in our newsletter this week. You have three weeks to read it, so that might feel quite manageable! Indeed, that is the opening theme of a few thoughts I share: ‘Just this’.

The hymn Victor brings to us this week will be familiar to many and the tune familiar to most I imagine.

Circuit News for August will be distributed separately. There is a lot going on around the circuit in the coming weeks. If you don’t receive ‘Circuit News’ and would like to be on the mailing list, please do get in touch. It is also available to read on the Circuit website under ‘publications’.

Newsletter Break: There will not be a newsletter for the next two weeks, Sunday 16^th and Sunday 23^rd August. If you would like to have an item included in the following newsletter, please send this in by Thursday 27^th to be published on Friday 28^th August. Thank you.

We have received greetings and a message from Revd Becki Stennett who will have ministerial oversight of our church from September. She is in contact with our stewards and includes a few things for the attention / interest of all of us:

“You’ll remember that the Circuit Service on 6^th September is 3:30pm at Woodside. I've been asked to start gathering some musicians together for the event, so I wonder if you could send out a note to musical folk in your church who might like to be involved to scope their availability and let me know?

For Earlsdon, Radford+Holbrooks and Woodside, I'm including a letter HERE which has been sent out to the congregation and other churches and clients at Central Hall about a Giving Sunday. I want to stress I'm not sending this to you in expectation that you will have people who want to give financially (though of course Central Hall won't say no to that!), but perhaps of greater interest is the section around volunteering which some folk might be interested in. With the caveat that I want people to understand this is not about wanting to take away from other churches (especially financially), I wonder if you might circulate this letter and explain to people that if they're interested in the volunteering side they could be in touch with me?”

Church Family News and Prayer:

Praying the alphabet
As we pray through the alphabet, we arrive at ‘M’. I can think of two in our church family. Maybe there are more? Let’s think of them this week.

(If you don’t know of anyone in church with the letter of the week – maybe you could ask around and say hello to one of them?)

Mondays

Banner Group meets on Mondays at 2pm above Wellspring. If you love being creative with embroidery, design and sewing, speak with Gill W, Helen, Heather or Lynda.

‘Come and Sing!’ 7.30pm in Church fortnightly, taking a break in August. Next meeting on 14^th September.

Monday Evening House Group meets fortnightly.

Tuesdays

Intercessory Prayer Group a break in August, resuming on 1^st September.

Evening Bible Study and Fellowship Group is taking a break in August, resuming on 8^th September.

Wednesdays

Worship Band meet for rehearsal in church, 8pm. There will be a break in August and the next meeting is likely to be 2^nd September.

Wellspring Café

Thursdays & Fridays 9.00 a.m. - 2.00 p.m. Saturday 9.30 a.m. - 12.00 noon

The usual menu of drinks and light food is available during normal opening hours. Prayer Shawl knitters meet on Thursday

During August, Wellspring will not be open on Friday 14^th and 21^st

Dear Earlsdon Friends
A few years ago I wrote to you expressing my thanks for the ministry of Wellspring and appealing for more helpers to keep it going. Since then I have observed with gratitude and pleasure the expansion of that ministry in the provision of free breakfasts for a number of regular visitors who not only benefit from the actual meals but also from the time of rest and conversation shared with others of us who visit Wellspring.
We are all immensely grateful for the work of those who provide and serve the refreshments we all enjoy, and whose care for all of us represents a splendid act of witness by the Church as a whole.
BUT it is equally clear to all of us that the present staff of Wellspring are working almost to the limits of their powers and energies. So, I want to end by making a general appeal for more helpers. Please think about this and consider whether you could join the team and keep Wellspring’s service and witness as active in the future as it has been hitherto.

Nuneaton Carnival 16^th August.
Jill Marsh is trying to get a few volunteers to run a stall outside Nuneaton church during the Nuneaton Carnival 16th August pm. Richard K-G will be helping for an hour or so. Have a word with Richard if you can support. Thank you.

Macmillan Cancer Support summer appeal
If you are taking cuttings or dividing plants, making jam, preserves or pickling produce, please think about putting aside any you can spare ready for the Macmillan Coffee Morning at the end of September at which we will be having our usual sales table as well as hot drinks and cakes in Wellspring. Small craft items also sell well if you are feeling creative! Many thanks

Carriers of Hope
We will be taking donations to Carriers of Hope on 27th August. Many of their refugee families face extra expense at this time of year getting ready for the new school term. We can help by providing some of the basics they need, so freeing up any money they have to use for back-to-school expenses.

Please, if you can spare it, bring whatever you can from the following:

Food (long-life e.g. tinned, packets, bottles)
Toiletries
Household cleaning products
Baby food, nappies

There is a collection box in Wellspring

Canva (design software) Training

We are pleased to confirm arrangements for the upcoming Canva Training Sessions, which will be led by Fiona Fidgin, Digital Communications Officer with the Connexional Team.
Canva is a user-friendly design platform that enables users to create clear, engaging and professional communications, including posters, newsletters, social media content and more.

Wednesday 16 September 2026
Morning Session 9:30am - 12:30pm Bedworth Methodist Church
Afternoon Session 1:30pm - 4:30pm Woodside Avenue Methodist Church

To make attendance as accessible as possible across the Circuit, we have arranged two sessions on the same day at different venues. Both sessions will cover the same content, so attendees only need to attend one session unless they would like the opportunity to revisit the training.

To get the most from the practical elements of the session, participants are asked to bring their own laptop where possible.

Please could you share this information with anyone in your church who may be interested in attending.

For planning purposes, please notify the Circuit Office by Wednesday 9 September 2026 if you wish to attend and indicate which session and venue you will be attending.
We hope that many of you will be able to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to develop your communication and design skills.

WOODSIDE CHURCH FELLOWSHIP
We meet again on Tuesday, 11th August, at 2pm, when our own Keith Chapman will give another intriguing, illustrated talk (using our screens) regarding ancient caves.
On Tuesday, 25th August we will be meeting at the home of Sue and Brian Davies to enjoy sunshine, tea and cakes, and admire the flowers, in their lovely garden (indoors if wet).
Our meetings always finish with a refreshing cup of tea (with biscuits).
Our Earlsdon friends are always welcome to join us.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details below) for our Sunday Service starting at 10.30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Parking is available at the front & back of the adjacent Church Hall, accessible from Earlsdon Avenue South.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are available after the service, please stay and have a chat.

Accessibility: Both the Church & Church Hall have level or ramp access, and chair lift access to upper floors. There are disabled access toilets in both buildings. The main worship area of the Church also benefits from a hearing loop. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.30am, but when the music is led by our Worship Band, we have a few hymns &/or songs before the service starts. There is then a warm welcome from one of our Stewards. Church news & extra notices may also be given at this time. Our services are typically an hour long, with a mixture of hymns, prayers, bible readings and a sermon. One of our leaders will give the sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We finish with a final worship song before a final prayer is said. (Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.)

Earlsdon Methodist Church aims to provide a safe & welcoming environment in which children can be themselves & have fun learning about our Christian faith. Please see our Sunday Services page for more information on Sunday morning groups for children.

Current mid-week groups available for children are as follows:

Prayers & Bears – every Wednesday morning (term time only) starting at 8.45 am. This is held in the church & is open to parents & carers with pre-school children.

Church Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, morning, afternoons and evenings.
