Week 73: 8.8.21

Dear Earlsdon Methodist Friends,

It feels like a strange paradox that as we are able to meet and connect in person once again, it is the time of year when many people need to take a break and step aside from routine, maybe get away on holiday if possible.  There is a mix of coming together and moving apart.  Perhaps we can use this time to check in. What is it that our body, our mind and our spirit are needing right now?  Maybe we have renewed energy to be doing, planning and meeting; maybe it is a season to ‘take time out’, to rest, to ponder, to wonder?  Whatever we need, there is an abundance of resources in God’s rich reserves. Let’s use the time, if we can, to connect with what is on offer and what we need most.

Sunday 8th  August, Worship at 10.30am will be led by Revd Stephen Willey in the church building .  Booking is no longer required.  The service will also be zoomed for those who wish to view at home. (Details are on the attachment)

Sunday 15th August, all-age worship will be led by Revd Doreen Koffie-Williams

Church Family News

The funeral of Tony Davis will be on Wednesday 11th August, 11.30am at Canley Crematorium, Charter Chapel.  The family request no flowers.  A collection will be made at the service for Dayspring Steel Band and Brandon House Residents’ Fund.  For those attending, you are asked to wear summer clothes, not black please.  We continue to hold June, Sheryl, Elaine, Scott, Kate and all the family in our love and prayers.

Wellspring is open on Thursdays and Fridays 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. and Saturdays 9.00 a.m. until 12 noon.  The usual menu of drinks and light food is available, and the team will be happy to serve you.

You are invited to the following meetings and activities during the coming week:

  • Sunday Coffee meeting   The zoom meeting will be open 12noon - 12.30pm.(Link attached)

We are considering the best way forward for our zoom coffee meetings on Sunday.  This is a valuable time to meet with each other as a group and includes those who are not able to get to church services in person.  Timing is more of an issue now as it can be challenging to get home and log in for 12noon.  Please think about what might work best for you and for others and we can explore options.

  • Meditation Worship Session on Zoom led by Joy Welford, and hosted by Coffee Shop Sunday, Sunday 8th at 4pm.  Zoom link attached
  • Intercessory Prayer Group on Tuesday at 11am by zoom. If you would like to join this meeting, please contact either Ethel (07970 989871) or Lorna (02476 506407) who can pass on the link details.

(Monday Fellowship and Tuesday Morning Prayer will resume in September)

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details below) for our Sunday Service starting at 10.30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Currently we are not offering tea, coffee and biscuits after the service due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, but it is hoped we can re start soon.

Plan your journey:

Open Google Maps

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There is a disabled toilet off the back of church.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.30am, but when the music is led by our Worship Band, we have a few hymns &/or songs before the service starts. There is then a warm welcome from one of our Stewards. Church news & extra notices may also be given at this time. Our services are typically an hour long, with a mixture of hymns, prayers, bible readings and a sermon. One of our leaders will give the sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We finish with a final worship song before a final prayer is said. (Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.)

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, morning, afternoons and evenings.

Our groups include:-

  • Tuesday Prayer Lunch
  • Wednesday Fellowship
  • Wednesday Word
  • Dayspring Steel Band
  • Wellspring Café
  • Prayer Shawl Ministry
Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
We hope that whoever you are, you will feel at home at our church.

Best Wishes
