Week 71: 25.7.21

Dear Earlsdon Methodist Friends,

Sunday 25th July All age worship will be led by Trevor Gay.  This will be a zoom meeting as previously arranged with the preacher.  Details of the log in link are on the attachment.

Worship on 1st August will be led by Revd Ian Coates in the church building.  The intention is to continue then with live worship each Sunday in church. This will be open to all, booking is not required.  The service will be zoomed for those who wish to view at home.

COVID restrictions have now been lifted by Government and, guided by recommendations from the Methodist Church nationally, we are proceeding with caution.

You may prefer to continue to wear a face-mask; this is not a requirement but others may feel more comfortable if you do.  When choosing your seat and when socialising, please do respect the space between yourself and others.  We endeavour to reduce both the risk and anxiety for everyone. We are free to worship, and we exercise our freedom with love and responsibility to all.

Good news is that singing will be permitted, though we will start cautiously perhaps with fewer hymns.

For the first few weeks we will not serve drinks after worship.  Our coffee time by zoom will continue at home as before.

The Church Stewards

Our Minister, Revd Doreen is on leave from 19th July to 7th August.  Urgent pastoral concerns during this period should go to Revd. Marcus Torchon, Circuit Superintendent.

A Worship Sheet for Sunday 25th  July, has been produced by Revd Marcus Torchon for distribution in the circuit as an additional resource (attached).

Wellspring is open on Thursdays and Fridays 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. and Saturdays 9.00 a.m. until 12 noon.  The usual menu of drinks and light food is available, and the team will be happy to serve you.

Knitters meet in Wellspring on Thursdays between 10am and 12 noon, supporting the church’s Prayer Shawl ministry.  If you are interested, please email this address, or contact Heather.

Offertory counting. Hopefully, we will soon be back to counting the Offertory after the Sunday morning service, but two people have had to drop off the rota. If you could help with this important task, please speak to Chris Fisher or one of the Stewards.

Looking Ahead

Revd Doreen has suggested that the most appropriate date for the Church AGM is 24th October following Church Council on 14th October.

‘Trusted Traders’  We might compile a list of local trades eg Electricians, plumbers, builders etc  whom we have used and would recommend to others in the church family.  It is often a struggle to know who to contact, especially in an emergency.  If you like the idea and are happy to send in recommendations, please email a name, trade and publicly advertised phone and/or email contact.  This could be published with the September newsletter and updated beyond. (Please do not send lots of additional information, so we can keep this simple and fair)

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details below) for our Sunday Service starting at 10.30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Currently we are not offering tea, coffee and biscuits after the service due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, but it is hoped we can re start soon.

Plan your journey:

Open Google Maps

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There is a disabled toilet off the back of church.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.30am, but when the music is led by our Worship Band, we have a few hymns &/or songs before the service starts. There is then a warm welcome from one of our Stewards. Church news & extra notices may also be given at this time. Our services are typically an hour long, with a mixture of hymns, prayers, bible readings and a sermon. One of our leaders will give the sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We finish with a final worship song before a final prayer is said. (Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.)

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, morning, afternoons and evenings.

Our groups include:-

  • Tuesday Prayer Lunch
  • Wednesday Fellowship
  • Wednesday Word
  • Dayspring Steel Band
  • Wellspring Café
  • Prayer Shawl Ministry
Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
We hope that whoever you are, you will feel at home at our church.

Best Wishes
