Church News for March: Week 53.

Dear Earlsdon Methodist Friends,

March19th (today) is the Feast of St Joseph of Nazareth. I confess this has passed me by in previous times. It would appear that he figures twice in the liturgical year having another feast day in May but pinning this one down does seem to get complicated! We hear little of Joseph in the bible after the nativity stories but it is good to recognise the man who was the ‘earthly dad’ of Jesus even though we know nothing much of their relationship.  I wonder what it was like?........

Fifth Sunday in Lent
Worship on March 21st will be led by Rev’d Doreen Koffie-Williams. It will be a zoom meeting and you can log in online or by phone. Details are attached.

We are delighted that Ruda will be received into membership at EMC during this service.

You can see who is planned to lead future Sunday worship by looking on the Circuit Preaching Plan (Circuit website address below)

A message from Ray Willliscroft: “Thanks to you all for your cards, your prayers, kind thoughts and cards at this difficult time.”

Lent Fellowship Study Groups by zoom:  Monday 22nd March is the third of the current fortnightly meetings, 7.30 – 9.00 pm. The material is based on ‘A Methodist Way of Life’. Further information with the zoom link is attached. You are very welcome to join whether or not you have attended before.

CTEC Fellowship in Lent: There is a short service each week on Tuesdays at 7pm hosted by each of the CTEC churches. This coming week, March 23rd, it is the turn of Earlsdon Methodist. Further information with zoom link is on the attached notice.

Morning Prayer:  We are holding a short time of quiet prayerful reflection each Wednesday morning during Lent at 8.30am for 15 minutes. The ‘zoom log in’ is the same as for Sunday worship (attached). Next week, Wednesday 24th, Helen will host.

Drama Group: We are looking for volunteers and Leaders to help with this new group. At current we cannot run this due to few numbers of leaders and volunteers. We would like to give the opportunity to our young people to express themselves in many different ways. What we are looking at is the opportunity to engage with young people and to give them the opportunity to come together as part of a group so they can support each other as well as have a safe place to come to.

With few numbers of people to come and help on the evenings we would not be able to have many young people attend this. The more people we have to volunteer and lead then the lighter the load for those who are there. With this in mind please prayerfully think about this and give the opportunity for our young people to have a safe place to come as well as express themselves through many different ways of drama. Please contact Ady White Youth Pastor at Ady.white@covnunmethodist.org.uk

Concert by zoom: Ros Light is hosting a concert with some of her students on Friday March 19th with admittance from 5.45pm. The concert starts at 6pm and will probably run for an hour- possibly and a quarter. People are very welcome to join with or without video as is their preference. If you would like to attend, please send an email message to Ros and she will send a Zoom link. Ros would like requests by 4pm on Friday – so you need to be quick!  Apologies for the late notice.

Anniversary Newsletter: Please send in your contribution by Monday 22nd March.  Further details are in previous e-letters. The more variety we have, the better it will be!

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details below) for our Sunday Service starting at 10.30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Currently we are not offering tea, coffee and biscuits after the service due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, but it is hoped we can re start soon.

Plan your journey:

Open Google Maps

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There is a disabled toilet off the back of church.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.30am, but when the music is led by our Worship Band, we have a few hymns &/or songs before the service starts. There is then a warm welcome from one of our Stewards. Church news & extra notices may also be given at this time. Our services are typically an hour long, with a mixture of hymns, prayers, bible readings and a sermon. One of our leaders will give the sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We finish with a final worship song before a final prayer is said. (Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.)

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, morning, afternoons and evenings.

Our groups include:-

  • Tuesday Prayer Lunch
  • Wednesday Fellowship
  • Wednesday Word
  • Dayspring Steel Band
  • Wellspring Café
  • Prayer Shawl Ministry
Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
We hope that whoever you are, you will feel at home at our church.

Best Wishes
